This case study is still a work in progress.

Giant’s Head Freeride Website

We designed and built a one-stop-shop for organizers, staff, attendees, and spectators to get the most out of a world famous downhill skateboard event.

Branding & Visual Design

Our site is a lot like a famous French professional wrestler. Big and bold looking, but surprisingly gentle and soft spoken. We wrote our copy to read as personable and unpretentious. We want everyone to feel welcome to participate in our event, reassuring them if they felt like they might not belong. Our goal is to express the same gratitude that this event is taking place that we hope our participants feel.

Our design is a mix of elements that wouldn’t make sense in many places, but seem to work here. Western-style typography, a nod to the Summerland Rodeo Grounds, where participants camp for the duration of the event. The Sun, a symbol that we use in our social media campaigns and communications. Our unofficial event mascot, Andre, a giant that some people might find familiar.

Event Registration

Sign ups for riders, volunteers, and media personnel were handled through the website, providing organizers with immediate access to critical participant information, including emergency contacts, medical information, and safety waivers.

Our Team

It’s a small token of appreciation, but still deeply meaningful to have a space dedicated to the individuals that make Giant’s Head Freeride a reality. The photo and quote are a chance for them to share a bit about themselves with our audience. Unsurprisingly, most of the photos involve blistering self-satire and the quotes are rendered nearly incomprehensible due to the volume of inside jokes.

Event Schedule

An easy to access reference for attendees.

Mostly Mobile

The Giant’s Head Freeride website was designed as a robust tool for event organizers, staff, volunteers, participants, and spectators alike. Since everyone would have a phone at the event, and nobody would have a desktop computer, we prioritized mobile design to ensure that the site was an accessible and easy to use resource.

Custom google map integration

Key locations overlay in google maps, including course information, evacuation routes, washrooms, and the liquor store.

Wheel Chart

We set up a graph showing the number of wheels we were going to be giving out to riders at the event. We wanted riders to consider the value of the wheels against the cost of registration.

Custom Google Map Integration

Key locations overlay in google maps, including course information, evacuation routes, washrooms, and the liquor store.

QR Codes

Perfect for phone to phone transmission.
